WORLD-CHANGERS WITH THE HEART OF GOD

Christ-Centred Education in Uganda

Grace Care Uganda is about caring for and providing high quality Christian education to as many Ugandan children as possible.  It is a ministry run by a local church managed by Pastor Emmanuel Kamuli.  The ministry is a local initiative and is entirely staffed by Ugandans, supported by a group of Australian fundraisers.

Education is the key to a brighter future.

Our students receive 2 meals a day, education and faith based learning. Students who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford education can receive sponsorship.

Our Schools

  • Life Care Academy

The Life Care Academy was started by  Ugandan pastor, Emmanuel Kamuli in 2009, with only the support of his church, to provide schooling (and food) to needy children in the local area.

Life Care Academy now offers preschool to year 7 classes for over 200 children.  The school has good academic results and caring teachers.

The children get two meals a day.  Food is provided at the mid-morning break (black tea and a small snack) and at lunch, usually bean stew with rice or maize meal.

Some of the pupils have parents who can pay a subsidised fee to the school, others (mainly orphans, or from single parent families, or those with sick parents) are sponsored.

  • Side By Side School, Rakai

Rakai is a poor rural area southwest of Kampala.  The Rakai school was funded by the Side by Side church of Orange County, California, and Pastor Kamuli managed the building of the school.  It has now been operating for over 15 years.

Classes are from preschool (age three to five) to primary 7 (age around 13) and of the 300 children, around 60 board at the school, either because of homelessness or because their relatives live too far from the school.  Staff also live at the site.

The Rakai school is well constructed with permanent facilities and has gained full government accreditation.  It has more than 20 staff, including 16 teachers teaching ten school classes (three pre-school/infants plus seven primary classes.

Few families in the Rakai district can afford more than nominal fees, and many of the pupils are sponsored, and there are many more children in the area who need sponsorship.

  • Grace Care High School

Many of the students who do well at our primary schools are unable to continue to secondary education, so the Grace Care team are building a secondary school.  Less than a quarter of Ugandan children attend secondary school.  In a country with high youth unemployment, the prospects for a child without secondary education are very limited.

Our school is under construction on a 2 acre site 30 km southwest of Kampala.  This makes it a very strategic area for a high school, with a growing local population.  The planned school will include boarding facilities, which will enable sponsored children from both primary schools to attend the school.

The first 3 story building has been constructed to lock up stage.  The architect plan for the site, when completed, would cater for up to 450 children, but development will be staged.  We hope to open the school with up to 70 pupils in the short term, but need significant funds to complete the initial buildings required.

The Heart of Grace Care

Feeding the Future

Grace Care exists to educate Ugandan children who would otherwise have no hope of education.

We provide food, a holistic Christian education, all school requirements, including full board if required.  Where possible and beneficial we support the child’s education through to tertiary level, either technical training or university. All Grace Care associated schools cater for boys and girls equally.

Our Mission

Continuing Education into High School

With many students being unable to access High School, Grace Care is building their own. The first 3 story building has been constructed to lock up stage.  The architect plan for the site, when completed, would cater for up to 450 children, but development will be staged.  We hope to open the school with up to 70 pupils in the short term, but need significant funds to complete the initial buildings required.

As at October 2025 we still need AUD 200K to finish the High School. If you would like to make a tax deductible donation to our building fund, you can be part of shaping the future for hundreds of Ugandans.

We love because God first loved us.

The Gospel is at the heart of everything we do. At Grace Care School, we believe that true education goes beyond academics — it’s about shaping hearts and minds through the love of Christ. We strive to equip our students with the faith, hope, and character found in Jesus, helping them discover their God-given purpose and potential. Our desire is to see each child grow in wisdom, compassion, and confidence, so they can go out into the world as leaders and world-changers with the heart of God.

Isma’s Story

Isma was one of the first children helped by Grace Care.  He was found abandoned wandering the streets, about age three, with his hair falling out from malnutrition.  He was taken into a foster family initially and later lived at the school as a teenager.

He has now graduated university as a nurse, and is able to give back to the Grace Care projects.
